Pseudocertainty Effect
The tendency to perceive an outcome as certain in a later stage of a decision, even though it was uncertain in an earlier stage.
This bias occurs in multi-stage decisions where people focus on the certainty of the final outcome, ignoring the uncertainty of previous steps. It happens because our brains simplify complex probabilities by latching onto the feeling of certainty. For example, choosing a 'guaranteed' prize in a final round, even if you had to pass through uncertain earlier rounds to get there.
Recognising a definition is not the same skill as spotting it.

A traveler chooses a direct flight with a known arrival time over a connecting flight that arrives earlier on average but is sometimes delayed, because the certain schedule feels more valuable than the uncertain but potentially better travel outcome.
A person accepts a sure six months of improvements rather than a gamble for potentially one year of better results, because the certain timeline feels more valuable than the uncertain possibility of greater improvement despite the higher expected benefit of the risky option.
