Fundamental Attribution Error
The tendency to overemphasize personal traits and underemphasize situational factors when explaining others' behavior.
We often attribute others' actions to their character rather than their circumstances. This happens because personal explanations are simpler and more cognitively available. For example, if someone cuts us off in traffic, we might assume they are rude, rather than considering they might be rushing to an emergency.
